A rain soaked St Margaret Clitherow saw FC Bracknell U12’s play their first competitive match against Wargrave Wolves.
In control from the start FC Bracknell played some very good football in spells and the only issue coming from the coaches who learnt during the first half that we were indeed now playing halves and not quarters!
Dominant throughout FC Bracknell took the lead after a lot of chances when a corner came in and Archie Johnstone got his head to the ball and glanced it into the far corner. Wargarve rarely threatened and when they did Thomas Blume was his normal one man army at centre back and quickly stifled any attack Wargrave could muster. Goals from Callum Gaskin and Ben Clarke saw us go into the half time break with a 3-0 lead.
The second half was much the same and the boys were encouraged to play from the back and involve Josh Barefoot in goal. The first back pass to Josh bobbled over his foot and luckily away from the goal. The hunt continues for the larcenous pine cone young Mr Barefoot claims the ball hit just as he was going to kick the ball up field. Worry not son, we will find it!!!
Further goals in the second half from Ben Clarke and Callum Gaskin meant FC Bracknell were in a position to take their foot off the gas but remained in control of the game and the ball. Goal of the day came from young George ‘Cristiano’ Mackay who gathered the ball just outside the penalty area and took the defender on one on one. With a ridiculous bit of skill that you’d expect to see on Soccer AM’s Showboat segment George left the defender and slotted it coolly past the keeper.
A good start to the season and a clean sheet. Can’t ask for more than that.
