FCB unlucky in a great display of bravery

By Kerrie Clarke

If ever a score line did not reflect the game today was the day... only being able to field 8 didn't deter the boys as they got off to a storming start, passing well and pressing hard, it was FCB that had all the chances and an outstanding performance from the Highmoor keeper was the only thing that stopped Ben, George and Harry from getting on the scoresheet early doors. Not giving up the boys pressed on and a sweet pass from Jamie saw Ben through on goal and the ball in the back of the net! The goal was followed by more FCB pressure and soon enough a free kick was awarded - cool as ever Ben tucked the ball in the bottom corner making it 2!!

Superb midfield performances from Bal and Harry ensured that help was there when the defenders needed it and at half time the boys were feeling confident. The second half brought the obvious tiredness of playing against an extra man... Thomas lead his defence well but the pressure was mounting not helped by James Picking up a knock. Josh made save after save with a particularly fine effort topping the ball on to the bar and over for a corner but half way through the second half and Highmoor managed to squeeze the ball past him. 2-1 and then down to 7 as Ben needed to be brought of after struggling on one leg for most of the match. Try as they might playing 7 against 9 was too big an ask and before long the game was 2-2 with extra time looming and another 20 minutes for those tired legs to endure!! Back to 8 for the start of extra time and still finding the energy to keep going, the boys pushed with George working tirelessly to do the running for those carrying injuries. Harry and Jamie came close got scoring as was Bal and James and Thomas stood strong in front of josh. Try as they might the tiredness set in and Highmoor got another 2 in quick succession, back down to 7 and heads held high the boys persevered before conceding a fifth minutes before the end, a score line that did nothing to reflect the effort, skill and overall outstanding team performance from those on the pitch today.

Boys- everyone there including the other team were truly impressed by your heart, work rate and your team spirit... you were fantastic and should be very proud of yourselves today... well done!!!!
